George F. Sawyer passports, 1842-1843.

Passports issued by the United States Consul in France to Purser George F. Sawyer of the United States Navy. The first passport is dated December 12, 1842 and gives Sawyer the right to travel in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and France. The second passport is dated May 23, 1843 and allows Sawyer to travel to Holland, Belgium, and Germany. Both passports contain physical information about Sawyer, including the color of his eyes and hair, and his height.
